The upcoming match between Minnesota Vikings and Packers has been generating so much buzz that sports site Sport Rabbit has decided to give away sports gears to lucky fans.

The match between Vikings and Packers will take place in the first week of October and Sport Rabbit will be giving away five Brett Favre jerseys. These jerseys will be given away prior to the match.

According to the press release, the fans will need to go to the sports apparel’s site and sign up. The contest mechanics will be read in the aforementioned site.

Company CEO and founder Cale Loken said that he’s also a big Minnesota Vikings fan himself so it is a no-brainer that they are coming up with this promotion to drumbeat the dream match. He clarified the company employees are exemption from this contest.

The contest will run until noon of October 5.

A member of the Elmbridge Canoe Club snagged a silver medal at a prestigious canoeing tournament held in Portugal over the weekend.

Ben Brown surprisingly performed well over more experienced contemporaries at the Canoe Marathon World Championships. Hailed as the 2009 Great British national champion, Brown placed second in the senior men’s 30km K1 event.

This is an important feat for the former world junior champion since he’s still new in the senior’s circuit.

Fellow club member Lani Belcher, on the other hand, clinched the bronze medal in the senior women’s K1 class. It was a tough competition among the ladies as the final results only showed a difference of less than a second among the top three.

Mark Childerstone, the 2009 junior national champion, placed 12th in the men’s K1 junior class while Great Britain’s Dean Terry placed second. Childerstone hails from Wey Kayak Club in Guildford.

Veteran diver Orlando Duque won the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series which was held recently at Lake Vouliagmeni in Athens, Greece. The win was a close one since Duque had to work hard to ward off young diver Gary Hunt of Southampton who delivered one of the most stunning dives in final rounds of the tournament.

Hunt, currently 25 years of age, produced a triple quad stunt (three somersaults and four twists) which has a degree of difficult of 6.2. This has been determined as the most difficult dive in the world.

The young diver said that he was happy to have successfully executive the dive and to also finish well in the tournament despite not winning the title.

Duque said that having competed all these years made him realize that there’s still a great future ahead of this sport after seeing Hunt produce the difficult dive. He admitted later on that this was the title that he had to fight for the hardest.

Canada’s swimming governing body has decided to implement its own guidelines in terms of men’s swimwear that should be used by athletes during competitions.swimsuit

Swimming Canada stated that effective September 1, 2009, the men’s swimwear to be worn by swimmers should conform to the approval guidelines by FINA, the world’s governing body on aquatic sports. These guidelines were supposed to start by January 1, 2010 but the Canadian governing body decided to jumpstart and began implementing the rules in order to let their athletes easily adjust.

National coach and Swimming Canada Chief Executive Officer Pierre Lafontaine said that they want the athletes to start adjusting to the new swimsuit guidelines this season. This way, the swimmers can easily adjust with having to compete without wearing the advanced swimwear which they used to wear in meets. However, Lafontaine added that the rule will not be implemented on Canadian swimmers competing abroad since this will take place on January 1 next year.

A young boy experienced an unexpected cliff diving stunt when he fell head first. Surprisingly, he survived this horrifying ordeal.

According to reports, 12-year old Kyler Lewis plunged off the cliffs in Porth Dafarch. He suffered multiple fractures to his foot and arms. Lewis reportedly lost his footing during the climb and fell. A diver who was swimming nearby immediately provided assistance by carrying him from the rocks to the sand.

It was a wonder that the kid survived this horrifying incident.

The boy’s mom said that it was a miracle that her kid survived. She thanked the diver for saving her son and also the people around who immediately provided support to the kid by placing towels on him and making sure that he did not move his head while waiting for the paramedics.

The doctors said that Lewis may undergo surgery if the broken bones won’t heal by next week.

Phuket

Wichai Praisa-ngob, the governor of Thai province of Phuket, vowed that he will do his best to resolve the jet ski scandal involving operators extorting money from tourists.

According to reports, the governor has already written to several foreign embassies to explain the matter. There have been increasing complaints from tourists stating that jet ski operators in Phuket are extorting money from them. A video clip surfaced online seeing a man brandishing a gun on one of the foreign tourists. The complaints mostly came from tourists from Japan, China and Australia.

Praisa-ngob said that the man in the video is currently under police custody. However, he said that they need to determine first if the video was part of an act or a real one. He stressed that whatever the intentions are, the move is still not right because it intended to destroy Phuket, considered one of the top tourist destinations in the world.

For 11-year old Brooke Madden, making it to the 2012 US Olympic diving team is a clear possibility, thanks to her undeniable talent in the sport at such a young age.

USA Diving National Training Center Head Coach John Wingfield said that Madden being part of the Olympic diving team three years from now is attainable considering that the young diver is already exposed to several national and international-level events.

He said that it is nice to see a change from the usual progression of Chinese divers reaping the gold medals in this sport.

Madden will now have a chance to prove that she’s worthy of the inclusion at this week’s Junior Pan-American Games. She’s part of the 20-member contingent for the US Diving team. The competitions will take place in the City of Calgary in Canada.

American water ski professional Regina Jacquess has another award to add in her long list of achievements after she was declared the winner of the 2009 Jack Kelly Fair Play Award. The said award was named after Jack Kelly, a late US Olympic Committee President and had been an Olympic medalist.

The aforementioned award is bestowed to individuals (official, coach or athlete) that showed fair play and sportsmanship.

In a statement, Jacquess said that she’s honored to have been declared as the winner. She added that she’d always try to live by the committee’s description of fair play. She stressed that she will continue upholding the spirit of competition, the same thing that Jack Kelly imposed when he was still an athlete then a USOC official.

Jaquess has amassed awards in water skiing for the past decade. She has won titles in Pan American Games and World Championships.

Canary Island

A cave diving expedition by a team of cave divers and scientists in the Canary Islands bore fruit after the team discovered new crustacean species that belong to the remipede genus Speleonectes.

The said crustaceans can easily manage to swim across the dark caves while searching for prey. These creates don’t use eyes but rather the long antennae attached to their body that acts as a detector.

The expedition took place at Tunnel de la Atlantida, considered to be the world’s longest submarine lava tube. Aside from the aforementioned species, the scientists also discovered two new annelid worms species classified under Polychaeta class.

The cave diving team consisted of scientists / divers from Pennsylvania State University and Texas A&M University from the United States, Spain’s University of La Laguna, University of Hamburg and University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, both from Germany.
